My belief

As a Design and Brand professional, I understand the importance of a strong brand identity. In recognition to my work at the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), I played a pivotal role in the development of visual identities for some of the biggest global initiatives in sustainable investing.

My work and commitment has been praised throughout the responsible & ESG investment industry, where I had the chance to work with some of the biggest proponents in sustainable investing, such as UNEP FI, the European Commission, and Al Gore's The Generation Foundation.

./Climate Action 100+

An investor-led initiative to ensure the world’s largest corporate greenhouse gas emitters take necessary action on climate change.

For the CA100+ project, I was approached by the working group to come up with a brand identity, including the creation of a logo, colours, typography, and initial input on the website and social media channels.

The concept i developed focussed on colours and elements that denote the urgency for actions (yellow to red) whereas the circular lines symbolise the time horizon for the project (5 years).

My proposal was very well received, and I'm proud to say that the general brand identity I created is still used today.

As part of the official campaign launch, I was also tasked with creating a promotional video.

Collaborating with the other partners, we worked on the copy and I developed the storyboard. Our goal was to establish a clear connection between the campaign and the Paris Agreement, the first public effort for the achievement of net-zero emissions as well as showcase the scope and size of the CA100+ initiative.

The final product was very well received by all stakeholders and gained prominence in numerous campaigns and relevant events.

"We very much enjoyed working with Ale, he was happy to take on this additional work on behalf of the PRI and we are very pleased with his commitment, speed of execution and overall support and creativity."

- CA100+ Working Group

./The Investor Agenda

An initiative that draws on the best investor guidance on tackling the climate crisis and advocate collectively for public policy to accelerate the net-zero transition in four interlocking areas – corporate engagement, investment, policy advocacy and investor disclosure.

Given my success with the CA100+ project, I was asked to take on this challenge and ensure the brand identity captured the mission and scope of the initiative. I not only developed a compelling brand identity, but also led the initial design and development of the initiative's website and provided initial support its social media presence.

To convey the initiative's goal of creating a net-zero emissions economy, I opted for a green colour scheme. Additionally, I incorporated a leaf element that doubles as an arrow, symbolising the initiative's mission to accelerate investor action.

Similarly to the CA100+ project, the proposal was very well received, and I'm again proud to say that the general brand identity I created is still used today.

"Alessandro was key in the development of the look and feel of the Investor Agenda project, he went over and beyond to listen to our ideas and put them in a visual and consisten way. He was also able to point us in the right direction for the devolpement of the website."

- Joy, Investor Agenda Group Coordinator

./European Commission

The European Commission established a High-level expert group on sustainable finance (HLEG) in December 2016 whose mandate was to provide advice to the Commission on how to steer the flow of public and private capital towards sustainable investments, protect the stability of the financial system from risks related to the environment and deploy these policies on a pan-European scale

In recognition of the PRI's strategic role in promoting responsible investment & ESG integration, I was entrusted with designing a series of reports that helped develop an all-encompassing and comprehensive EU roadmap on sustainable finance. This was a ground-breaking project that marked the first practical attempt to address the issue of sustainable finance at a government level, making it a crucial milestone for sustainability as a whole.

My work on this project garnered very positive feedback, which led to me being entrusted with the task of curating the design of presentations and other assets related to this project. I am proud to have contributed to such an important initiative.

"Alessandro, the printing turned out beautiful like expected and everyone was incredibly happy. The report reads well and clear thanks to you.

It’s really been a pleasure working with someone as talented and efficient as you, I really hope we’ll have other opportunities to work together.

- Esther, Chief of staff to Director of Public Affairs & Corporate Responsibility, Axa

./Fiduciary Duty 21st Century & the Legal Framework for impact

Fiduciary Duty in the 21st century (FD21)

A four-year project in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), and The Generation Foundation set out to clarify investors’ obligations and duties in relation to the incorporation of ESG issues in investment practice and decision-making.

Notably, this project had Al Gore, the former US Vice President, heavily involved.

I was thrilled to be asked to design the main report and shortly after, to design a new series of reports such as the Global Statement on Investors’ Obligations and Duties and a research paper on investor’s obligations and duties to six Asian markets. The project is now concluded and the group is now onto the next phase of work through the project A Legal Framework for Impact.

It was an incredible honour to work on such an important project, and I am proud to have contributed to its success.

The Legal Framework for Impact

A project in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), and The Generation Foundation that stemmed from the FD21 project. It set out to clarify how regulators in 11 jurisdictions view “investing for sustainability impact”, which involves the use of investment powers, stewardship and engagement with policy makers to produce assessable positive sustainability impacts.

I was asked to oversee and produce a series of country-specific reports based on the graphics developed for main report but using the publication style I developed for the PRI. I was also responsible for the asset production on social media.

"Ale has constantly delivered a number of FD21 and LFI related projects, often under very extreme deadlines and challenging conditions. We are very grateful for his commitment and the ability to accomodate our requests."

- Policy team, PRI

./Initiative Climat International (iCI)

A PRI-led, global, practitioner-led community of over 200 private markets firms and investors representing over US$3.2 trillion in AUM that seek to better understand and manage the risks associated with climate change.

I was asked to came up with a visual identity that supported the global nature of the initiative, and used a colour that represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.

Initiative Climat International

"Thank you Ale. We love the logo and it conveys exactly the tone of the initiative!

- Natasha, ICI coordinator

./Takeaways

Reflecting on my time at the PRI, I'm very grateful for the opportunity to work on several high-profile initiatives and with such influential leaders.

I'm especially proud of the brand identities I created, which helped ensuring consistency across all platforms and projects.

This allowed me to make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of responsible investment and sustainability.
